About 40 members of the Society took part in our visit to Upper Largo which included a tour of Largo's historic Parish Church and of Eden Cottage, a restored mid-18th century house, with a reception in its beautiful garden which enjoys a glorious prospect of Largo Law. Fortunately the sun shone for us.
Largo’s Ian Anderson explained the church’s history from its foundation in the 9th century, the current structure and spire dating mostly from the 17th century, the 1960s remodeling of the interior by architect Larry Rolland that helped create the present magnificent central open space, and the major restoration works completed in 2017.
Lesley Henderson then gave a short organ recital demonstrating the church's fine acoustic, while our visitors did a tour of the church interior. Members then proceeded to Eden Cottage courtesy of our hosts Stephen and Patsy Wood, where Stephen gave an amusing account of his restoration of the house and its sympathetically designed garden extension.
