Pittenweem Tolbooth

The Society’s project consisted of an architectural feasibility study and economic viability appraisal to find a viable community use for the interior of Pittenweem Tolbooth.

Built in 1590 with the spire added in 1630, the grade A listed Tolbooth is the burgh’s most prominent landmark, providing an end stop to the view down the historic High Street and forming part of the precinct of Pittenweem Priory.

Fife Council’s major restoration of the Tolbooth in 2021 did not include the interior hence the Society’s project provides an assessment of what is needed to restore the Tolbooth interior to a usable condition and of possible viable community uses for the building.

The architectural feasibility study was carried out by ARC Architects with the economic viability appraisal by Community Enterprise Ltd -  Click here to view the report

The final version of the report was issued to Pittenweem Community Council which instigated the idea of finding a community use for the Tolbooth and to the local community group looking to take over the adjoining Pittenweem Parish Church which has been scheduled for closure by the Church of Scotland.
